The African Me

Hiya.

Lis´nin´to Mattafix. Fantastic album from… 2005? Great lyrics, dub rhythms, great melodies…

And I just realized, about four minutes ago, that I so miss my African friends!
I read a status update on the facial… 🙂 … My Namibian mate Jade wrote something about political resistance on the streets that he was part of as a student  in South Africa years ago. How, although he holds university degrees, he disagrees, with the system of bowing down to a head master or other authority that he sees as part of a system of surpression…

It made me remember how he and I used to sit together, and Sherif from Gambia, Baboucarr (also Gambia), the good Richard Asiimwe from Uganda… Eliman from Ghana… I had quite a few African brothers when I lived in Bergen. Some were lovers, for sure, but certainly not all of them.

Jade and I were not. He had a girlfriend. At least one. Haha… But he and I were “just” mates. Hanging out in my bedsit, passing pipes, watching a vhs tape I had, of a brilliant reggae concert, talking about southern Africa contra Bergen/Europe, we were both writers, and into philosophy (he studied philosophy in Bergen Uni)… we drank beer and went dancing into the early hours, and he would crash on a mattress on my floor… (We went to parties at his friends´ places as well, and hung out with Leela and Indian Namito… dancing a LOT)!

Big heart and a very wise mind, my Jade. I miss him a lot.
We´d both worked in radio stations as well. Activists in political ngos. Many things in common. And many thoughts to exchange, and so much laughter to share…!

That´s one of the main things I miss about hanging with my African friends, actually. The way they laugh. The total surrender into laughter, slapping one´s thighs and laughing with full power, throwing one´s head back……

There are parts of me that go unexpressed now that I don´t have these people around me! I have always felt very connected to Africans. The rhythm, somehow. The ways of being social. The sense of humour. Depth, honesty, open about personal issues…

I just now wrote to the only female true friend I have who is African. I know a few, but I don´t really know them well, they are mainly friends of Richard´s. Bless his light, he passed away from us in 2013…….. Yeah, I truely miss him too. But that´s different from Jade, as Richard and I were lovers at one point. Kindred spirits as well. But more than just mates. Long story. I wish it had been longer. I miss you, Richard. Your heart of gold. You taught me some important things.

I just wrote to my only female African friend, and she is very much alive, thank Goodness. Her name is Sunday. Even just her name brings a smile to my face.
To a white girl my age, her name automatically reminds me of one of my favourite books in childhood, Robinson Crusoe. And his only fellow human on the desert island; Friday.

Sunday is an incredibly interesting person. I have rarely felt closer to another woman. Although she is quite a bit younger than me. From Sudan, grown up in Usa. I met her om a train station in Denmark, and the ten minutes that passed before my train arrived, were just magical. Instant and total connection! I found her on facebook, and a week or two later she came and visited me and my family for a few days! How great is that?! I love it when people do stuff that I would do. I don´t know many that would just come and visit like that, apart from my crazy self. Haha! 🙂
We had a great time together here. She helped me out at an event called Diversity day, helped us with bartending, and suddenly it was clear she was a great singer as well…
So she joined the jam session on stage… Yeah.
And another day, we went in my car to my favourite place, which is the old cemetary (I have written a blogpost about it before, with lots of photos, you should go there, it must be in the category “Fano my home island”)…
Yeah, we went there. And sat and had “weird” conversations about clairvoyance, syncronocities, spirit…6.sense experiences…

I´ll have to find out where she is in the world now. Last time we were in touch, she was in Sweden… She´s an academically talented person. And artistically. And spiritually sensitive, or how to put it. My favourite mix. My blend, my tribe.

More to say about this?
Not really. Just miss those vibes, those people. That part of myself.
I´m working on getting a playlist together. And shoot/edit a video installation to fit the playlist, and then get it to a dancefloor near by. Not enough dancefloors here in rural Denmark! And not a single place where they play decent stuff, i.e. those reggae trip hop dub heart beat beats…

http://pin.it/oTmK3D2

Hmmm…. I was hoping the link would show the picture straight. It´s a link to Pinterest, which I have just discovered. I love it there! A wonderful tool for manifesting and visualization!

Text says something like;

Phone rings, and dad picks up the phone: “Eeeeh my broda!”

I miss that sound of “Eeeeeeh!!”  I miss the big laughs. The heartful authenticity. The slapping of thighs. The smiling and playful dancing.

I can´t find a suitable photo in my archives here and now, to make the full stop for this post. Let me see if I can find a youtube vid, then, to illustrate my thoughts.

Solar Eclipse 21/8-17

Facebook
rssyoutube

I often listen to youtube videos in the evenings. Today my youtube stream is flooded with “news” about the upcoming solar eclipse. News in brackets because I don´t know what to call these stories…

I looked into a couple of them. A lot of numerology, claiming mysical structures of connection between Israel and Oregon… Christ´s return is following this solar eclipse, so the metallic, computerized voice says…

Well. I cut it short. When something feels like it comes from fear…. I´m out.

I choose to listen to this guy, though. I watch his forecasts from time to time.
This feels like an expression from the source of Love.
Check him out if you feel like it:

“Be inspired by social change, to contribute your individual creativity”.
“This is the time for opening of hearts”.
“Own your truth, follow your heart´s passion, you are your authority”.
“Celebrate your inner child, your own way of doing things, your uniqueness”.
“We are moving into the new, and it is up to US to do the work”.

I´m listening to this next one right now as I type… Imagine that´s pretty neat to fall asleep to…. look at that list of links they have included in the text beneath the video window. Very considerate…
Personally I do a chakra meditation using sound that I learnt from my teacher Githa Ben-David. But I sometimes use youtube videos as well. Or just lie still and visualize chakra by chakra as it comes to me spontaneously. This video uses about 20 minutes in each chakra, though. I don´t often have the focus to do it that long when I “do it on my own”…

I leave you here.
May the solar eclipse enrich our existence tomorrow, and in the time ahead.
Namaste.

17.-May, Hip hip HurrAAYYY

Facebook
rssyoutube

Hello there.

It´s evening, soon 9 pm. Kids gone to bed. Quiet here in my sofa corner.
It´s the 17. of May and I´m a Norwegian living in Denmark.

This morning I turned on the Norwegian tv channel that I have in my cable deal.
I watch this channel maybe 5 times a year or so. On the 17.of May it is vital I have that channel. As they send this live programme, moving from place to place around Norway, and also visiting places all over the world, where Norwegians gather today to celebrate their national day. To sing and cheer Hurray for Norway.

Norway´s constitution day. The day we became our own independent country, in 1905. Not just a colony under Denmark, then Sweden, then Denmark…

It is not a day of military marching bands. No. It is a day where all school children march in the streets singing and playing instruments. And everyone else stands on the pavements, cheering the children on…

It is the children´s day. Because they are the future of our nation.
Everybody has the day off. Everybody gets up early, and puts on their best clothes. Many wear national costumes, very expensive, traditional dresses and suits, which looks different from region to region of the long coasted country…

After the parade of the children, people go home and have lunch with family or friends. Nothing fancy. Hot dogs, milk shakes. Maybe smoked salmon and hams. Easy food. Kids get ice cream, almost as many as they want. Uncles and aunts and grandparents stick the kids some money, which they are encouraged to spend on silly things in kiosks. For once.

After lunch, there are other parades downtown, where businesses and ngos make floats and joke around. College students as well. Adult fun. And then people with kids go to their local school yards and there´s games and competitions. Stilt race, for example. And racing with a potato on a spoon…

Around 7 pm or so, it is over. Kids and adults are knackered, and getting the national costumes off is a great relief. Sore feet. Sugar shocks. Exhaustion.
All go to bed, ready for a new day at work or school on the 18.

When I was little, it was a day as big as xmas eve. In school we rehearsed marching and singing the national hymns for weeks, leading up to it.

I have lived in Denmark for 10 years now. Only once have I spent a 17.of May in Norway in this decade. It has been relaxing not to have to do all this as a mother, getting costumes ready for three kids… but it also makes me sad that they don´t know the feeling connected to this day. Shouting out the name of one´s school together, ending each sentence about it, with a loud HURRAAAYYYY…… waving the flag….
Feeling moved and proud of one´s country, one´s town, one´s school….. Feeling connected, belonging in a group, joined together…

Celebrating freedom. Of expression, of movement. Freedom from fear. Freedom to expect to be treated as an equal, no matter what sexual preference, gender, colour or religion one belongs to.
Celebrating the all inclusive community of every individual who shares the same homeland. We who live here. Who make Norway together, day by day, by being who we are and doing what we do.

National romanticism. Is a beautiful thing. It is love. Appreciation.

Nationalism is the opposite. Exclusive. Fearful. All about the division into “us” and “them”. “You don´t belong here in our group!” (And hence you are inferior to us). Weird stuff.

It´s interesting. How patriotism can be so… warm and embracing… or it can be cold and aggressively pushing against imagined enemies…

Well. When I wave the Norwegian flag, it is with joy, with pride and without feeling it is against anyone. I wish every person could feel peaceful joy waving the flag of their country of origin.

In Norway, our immigrants participate same as everyone. All citizens alike, all school children, one community. Norway can be your homeland to cherish and enjoy, it doesn´t have to be your country of origin to be your home country.

I heard them say on tv this morning that some immigrants had said that they love Norwegians the most on the 17.of May, because that is the one day people show happy emotions in public, and wear colourful clothes, and greet everyone in the streets!

Hahaha…
There´s truth to that. Norwegians are too reserved normally.

Here in my home today, we´ve watched 17.-May on tv, and we had kebabs for dinner, and of course ice cream. That was that. I have spent some time on social media, saying happy birthday to family and friends, as we do on this our country´s birthday.
I´ve felt a bit down, periodically. Then I´ve sung a couple of my favourite 17.-May-songs, and felt a bit better.

I miss my homeland today. I feel Norwegian, to the roots of my heart. And this emotion is not easily translated to those who haven´t grown up in Norway or at least been present on the 17.of May there…

Norway, I salute you.
Freedom – Equality – Solidarity.

The values of the French revolution, really.

OneLove.

I´ll finish by sharing the insight I heard the other day…
That the cross, which to me just symbolizes and instrument of torture, sad to say…
That it actually (can) stand(s) for two crossing axes. One from above to below (cosmos to earth), the other, horizontal axes, standing for how we reach out to eachother, socially.

So the vertical; connecting to the supernatural.
The horizontal; connecting to human community.

In buddhist terminology the concepts are Dharma and Sangha. ? Not sure…

Anyways. Interesting.
Four directions, or. Longtitude and latitude. The two directions of our mother earth.
Meaning is in the eye of the interpreter.
Such is the nature of freedom.

Good morning. Sunday morning. We are heading off to the birthday brunch of our dear neighbour girl Alma soon, who turns 8. Big hurray for her. We have the most amazing, friendly neighbours, and it is such a strength and joy in our everyday living.

Anyways. I saw this video with Bernie, the man who would have been president now if it wwasn´t for the Democratic Party cheating him out of his right place.

I just leave the rest of the message up to him. And the pope. It is time we start talking about the worship of profit for private gain, goin on in the ruling class.

Thank Goodness there are still intelligent people on this planet.

My Valentine View

Facebook
rssyoutube

Just wrote a facebook status:

Happy Valentine´s Day to each and every one of you.
Celebrate the Love you have in your life.
The Love you are allowed to give.
To your cat or dog, your friend, your child, a stranger on the street, your mother, your uncle, your neighbour or your spouse. One Love. Long Live Love. Let Love Rule.

Because. Something on facebook last night made me think. A woman was saying Valentine´s day was sickening to her, all the focus on being a couple, feeling left out.

Then someone said that in other countries they celebrate it differently. In Syria one says happy valentine to one´s friends, and the same applies in Japan and some latin American country I forgot which one was mentioned.

And of course that´s much better.
Why make limits to Love?
Why leave some people out?
Love is including. Not excluding.

Anyways.

I don´t have that much more to say about this. And also, I don´t have time to sit and think about it. Because I´m spending this my Valentine´s day with my husband and three children on the ice, skating about in a probably disturbingly big crowd.

But hey. It will be memorable. It will make us laugh together. And make us two adults catch eachother´s eye above the little ones´heads and smile together about how cute we think they are. If that is not a perfect way of celebrating a Valentine´s day, I don´t know what is.   🙂

Here´s me with two of my four favourite people on this planet. Budapest, November last year.
Age soon 3, and 11. And then there is Viola, not in the picture, who soon will turn 6!
God I remember thinking “Soon they won´t be 2 and 4 anymore, but 3 and 5!” Well, that´s a year ago now.

I finish this post with a song. A happy ending. A lovesong?

Okay, you´ve got me started now. This one belongs together with the last one, in my head.

And all good things are three. So. Here. One of the best lovesongs ever written. I said so!

Indian woman breastfeeding

“This photo is revolutionary. It is revolutionary because I breastfeed, in a society where the milk formula is normal and fully accepted, where the ability of women to breastfeed is discredited, where our more instinctive and mammal side is supressed.
It is revolutionary because I show my body, which is banned for breastfeeding, but not that of a bikini model.
It is revolutionary because we dance and we restore our ancient Aymara and Quechua roots, because we believe that is in mourning pacha, under the cement behind the logging of forests, dams, genetically modified foods.

This photo is revolutionary, because I also am.”

Photo via Cata Contreras RisitadeArdilla in Chile

Saw this on Facebook this morning. I always share pictures of women breastfeeding. A matter of principles. A matter of children´s human rights for crying out loud. They need food! And it can´t just wait until the source is in a “socially acceptable place”.

Why is breastfeeding in public not socially acceptable?! When topless sunbathing is. And front pages of magazines picturing naked women? One should think the female body´s natural function was a holy one. She carried a new human being into life! And now she should hide when the baby is hungry? Feel ashamed for… what?

I just don´t get it.

Or could it have to do with the female body primarily being seen as a sexual object for men? And the breastfeeding makes them jealous, that a baby is getting what the men think belongs to them? No, surely people can´t be that stupid.

Anyways. Moving swiftly on.

feminist

Oh. I did not see atheist. I am no atheist. I am a spiritual person.
Liberal is a toxic label too. In this political era.

I am a reincarnated French revolutionary.
“Freedom, Equality and Brotherhood / Solidarity”.
That is my parole.

And of course I am a feminist. Someone should rename that word.
Into “common sense” or something like that.

If you don´t believe women are equal to men… it´s the same as believing black people are less good than white ones. Or that gay people´s sexuality is less glorious than hetero sexuality.
Or that Jews or Moslems are inferior. To the fascists.
Because that is the ideology of inequality, man. It is fascism.
The idea of “Das Übermensch”. The Superhuman.
Stupid translation. Superhero, superhuman…. confusing.

But. Its meaning is
that some humans are better than other humans.
Simple.
And these better ones (mainly defined by themselves, the white caucasion males, WASPs; white anglo saxon protestants) …
Yeah, these better humans, the super ones. They get to ethnically cleanse other specimens of our human species, to their free liking.

Fucking charming.

(Actually. I need to add that not all fascists are white. There are a lot of them in religious / political cults all over the world. Moslem groups. Chinese politics towards Tibet. So. Sorry, wasps. We need a new little label, to include the rest of the  antisocial assholes. Greedy, Egoistic, Violent, Uncompassionate Fascist Men… GEVUFM. For example).

Sorry, my blood is simmering. It´s this refugee crises. All the ugly fascist reactions popping up all over Europe now. Scary.

Of course I´m a feminist. Was my point. I am PRO EQUALITY.
It is the only compassionate way to be. The only decent idea. Anything else lacks humbleness. Lacks respect. Lacks intelligence, actually, I will claim.
United we stand. Parted we fall.
Separation is an illusion.
We are all interdependently connected, we are one.
Including the rest of nature.
We are NATURE!
That´s why I can´t understand when the natural is frowned upon. Like breastfeeding. It is stupidity. Ignorance. Non reflection.
“Socially acceptable.” Us humans in groups we behave as fools!

If we don´t accept and respect we are nature, we will end up destroying our planet and living in fear of our fellow humans.
Oh. Yeah. That is what we are currently moving eagerly towards.

Aaaanyways. Rambling a bit now.

Found a third image on Facebook this morning, that I agree with:

different things empower women

Amen.

If we could just treat other people the way we would like them to treat us if we were in their shoes.
Like each and every spiritual master has always taught as a golden rule.  Actually.
We would not need many more rules than that one,
if we could follow it. Think about it.

I will round up. No. Not that Monsanto product, are you crazy?!

Sigh…. so many issues to fight for these days…
Here is a video.

We used to be hunters and gatherers, all of us.
I think that lifestyle suited me a lot better
than the one we have now.

dont destroy earths lungs

Again. We are one, and interdependent.

We are nature.

No trees, no air.
No bees, no food.
No compassion, no care.
No giving, no good.

Be one, be all
Be equal, be free
Be united, stand tall
Be Love and dignity

What should I ?

Facebook
rssyoutube

Hello dear reader.

I have been very upset the last few days. Been reading and watching videoclips on Facebook about the new law the Danish government has made. I have written some statuses and many comments… I should write a blogpost about that issue. But it is too overwhelming.

Here is my main facebook status about it. Which covers my opinion:

Lene Kaltwasser Henriksen
28. januar kl. 16:39 ·

I am furious. I am so sad. I am livid. I write in English so I can reach everyone. This Danish government?
They have…destroyed our nation’s pride. Our dignity.
Our identity as a people who cares. Who shares.
Who stands for humanism. Equality.
These people in the government. Acting out of fear. Out of greed. Out of lack of empathy. Breaking human rights. Hurting families and children. Knowingly!!! Who does such a thing? What is the ideology? Ūbermensch I tell u. Evil ! A spade is a spade.
Tax relief for the rich. Thats what this sick government cares about. More money for the richest ones. Including themselves. Oh if we were in France 1789… heads would roll.
They are doing damage to Denmark these idiots. This is not how the Danish nation reacts to a wave of people in deep need.
Come on! This is a nightmare!
Imagine being a Syrian refugee. One month on the run, in dangerous boats, through woods, just scared. To escape. To find somewhere safe to live. For the future of your children. And then. They take your last posessions on the border. And they tell u that u will not see your kids and wife for three years.
How would u survive that?
Maybe suicide is the aim of the government. Saves money. You know. The AllMighty Fuckedup Dollar.
My condolances. This government.
The worst I have ever known in my homeland.
I really never imagined this could be possible.
Intelligence. Empathy. Dignity. None.
None. !
Un believe able.

Here is one of my favourite songs for describing longing for peace in one´s homeland… Dire Straits with Brothers in Arms.

I have shared many videoclips and newspaper articles. About how they don´t listen in parliament, when one politician tells them the law makes her sad and explains to them its consequences. Her colleagues sit and chat with eachother while she speaks. Open disrespect. No manners!

And then they passed the law. 81 fore, 27 against. And 70 members of parliament were NOT PRESENT!!! Where were they?!?! Why were they not there?!?!

Two of the party Venstre´s ministers were called in to a questioning in Brussels two days before the voting. To explain their extreme, hostile law. And they stood there lying and avoiding telling the truth about it. For example that it breaks UN´s human rights convention for children!

They will now take jewellery from refugees to help pay for their keeping. Outrageous. Like the nazis. Yeah. Brilliant idea.

And much worse: They will make refugees wait three years before they can be reunited with their spouses and children, left behind in the war zone.

If I knew how, I would paste some of the facebook posts here. But I don´t know how to do that.

Seems easy, embed post, but… no. Just tried again. And read the tech help text. Oh well. Let go let go.

I share this one instead. Also a lot nicer to take in than the picture of those heartless politicians.

compassion necessity

It knocked me out of balance, that fascist law. To realize DENMARK can do such a thing. Shocking to me. A lot of Danes are shocked and disgusted and sad and shameful about this government´s new law.

I feel better now. Having talked about it with friends, having cried a lot and written about it. Also I have realized that the law of the three year long wait to be reunited with family, will be a reality for only about 10% of the asylum seekers. Not that that makes it less harmful. Or. Yes it does in numbers. But the pain it will induce on the ones it hits….. how can people come up with a rule like that. Ungraspable.

I am extremely relieved that the 3 year rule will not hit  my Syrian friend Asaad, who moved to Fanø first of December… and whose youngest daughter turned 2 years old on the 26.of January… he will not have to wait until she is 5 before he sees her again.

I am so relieved, and I just HOPE my interpretation of the law´s text is correct. It says that the asylum seekers who get only one year´s stay allowance (or how they phrase it). Those are the ones who have to wait. Most Syrians get 2 or 5 years stay allowance. Asaad has got 5 years.

If I ruled Europe, we would invest in the refugees. Give them treatment for the trauma they have endured. Then education and later jobs. Actually, I would invest in Greece. They suffer immensely there. We could help them build a really good refugee camp there. And every European country could send a team of specialists, to help in every way, both the Greek citizens and the refugee citizens.

I would say that “Okay, Denmark has now received 15.000 refugees. We now close the border, because we must find the families of our new citizens, and start to integrate them. We have made a 5% tax for corporations that earn more than a million kroner a week. And this new stately income will cover the extra cost of our investment in the refugees´ wellfare. If we find that the cost will be higher, we will sell our war planes. We no longer need them anyway, because we have decided to stop taking part in the war in Syria. We will from now on be a nation for peace. No more war.”

“And as soon as were have the families reunited, and can see how things are going and what challenges and opportunities we have. Then we will of course open our borders again and accept more refugees. Because we see this as our human duty, to treat our brothers and sisters with love. We are one humanity and we must stand together in times of need.”

if u dont fit in its because u will make a new world

This is what I should. One thing is to report the evil. That is being done by journalists all over the world. Not always as well as it needs to be done, but. This Danish law and its disgrace, they have covered well.

What is MY mission, is to uplift. To help myself and others digest the difficulties, and keep strong and hopeful, solution orientated, positive and optimistic about the future and about human individuals´ capacity for love in spite of capitalism, in spite of xenofobia, fear of the unknown…

The refugees who come here, are people. Just like us. Individuals. The Danes connect with them really gently and friendly. One example is the facebook group phenomena “Venligboerne” which means “The Friendly Dwellers”. In the groups individuals organize help for the refugees. Find them places to live, give clothes and furniture to them, invite refugees to special cafe meetings… anything.
It started in Denmark and spread to Germany. I don´t know if more countries have them yet?

venligboerne

Check them out…. All in all, choose to focus on the positive, loving messages about the refugees. It is really so rewarding to get to know them. I have always been curious to get to know people from other countries. It does not drain me. A mutual bond develops, like in any other friendship. They need help, and it feels good to be of help to people. And to teach people about the local customs and how things work. And people who get help, want to give something back. You will find they also try to find ways of helping you back. Very rewarding relationships. Where one learns a lot, and laughs a lot actually, in the process of communicating with limited language skills…

Go familiarize yourself with the refugees and their situation. If we all greet and meet them, integration will be easy. When there is segregation, non integration, it is because the parties do not meet and get involved with eachother. We have tons in common with any other human being! Like a need and appreciation for food. And music. Dancing. Jokes. Like wanting safety and happiness. Like tears of joy and of pain. Like smiles.

Norwegian Christmas foods

Facebook
rssyoutube

I just found this video in my Facebook stream. Employees at the US Embassy in Oslo tasting different Norwegian christmas foods. A cultural experiment. Funny. 🙂

Many of the items presented, I have never tasted myself. And they could do the dishes service by presenting them in context, the mustard herring on a piece of bread, for example. And the pinnekjøtt (which is my family´s traditional xmas food) together with mashed swede and potatoes…

I would maybe have expected the embassy employees to be more polite in their…evaluations. I know that I would have tried to be, if I was tasting strange things in a country I worked in. Especially if on embassy level, and knowing I was being filmed.

But they are all charming people, and  it is very funny to see their honesty.  I can perfectly well understand their reactions. I would maybe run away myself, if a sheep´s head was put on a plate in front of me like that. Food is such a sensitive thing to us humans, new unusual stuff brings us right out of our comfort zones, and we react quite instinctively.

I thank the US Embassy employees for this cultural experiment. Very entertaining.  Cheers!

I just feel like sharing some funny things from Facebook with you. We need to keep laughing in this crazy world, when the going gets rough, the survivors keep their spirits high. (To quote myself, haha…)

stone henge easterisland

Isn´t that just great… haha… I actually read a few weeks ago that they actually did find out that there are bodies underneath the big stone heads on Easter Island…!! Google it if you want to find out more, can´t remember where I read it…

The big question remains. WHY did they go to those extents, of building those huge, heavy, very mysterious structures??? Fascinating. I love not knowing stuff. 🙂

Here´s a more political joke:

poor cant afford

Yeah… they have their problems, the rich…

A religious joke:
(Because to me, nothing is holy… I don´t believe in a God who has no sense of humour)

the word fuck

Ok, one more then:

Okay, this is not a joke, but. Quite entertaining in a feel good way to us who are old enough to remember the 80s…

This is…. more disturbing than funny, I reckon… humouristic drawings are great for telling some truths…

Let´s not forget this kind of humour. Quite intelligent, this one, actually. 🙂

stig_moeller

I´ve only experienced him live once. At the all day music festival Realen Rocks, here on Fanø, Summer of 2014? I think it must have been.

I had never heard of him, and I was just flabbagasted. Started jumping up and down as close to him on the stage as I could get. It was about mid day, sun blasting in its friendliest mode, children and their parents were lying on the lawn enjoying the music, and this crazy Norwegian immigrant was jumping up and down laughing and singing from the top of her lungs…! I wasn´t drunk. I was in an extatic shock! He is… something else, this Stig Møller. His music, his essence, his presence. He makes my spirit bubble and fly high, he touches the sky.

This is the song he played that day.

It´s called “What a brilliant day it is today!”

See how everyone in the audience know this song, and smile…

I found this too on YouTube… a gig from Christiania last year… You know that alternative hippy society that has its own space in Copenhagen… visit some time if you can. A very special place.

Love their lyrics, as well as the melodies and rhythms… Lyrics remind me a bit about Syd Barrett, the shiny crazy diamond of Pink Floyd… their album from 1967, “Piper at the gates of dawn”… he´s got several wonderful songs on that one. The Scarecrow, The Bike, The Gnome, Chapter 24… poetic.

Here is a documentary about the band Stig Møller is famous for being a part of.
Being Norwegian, I don´t actually know anything about Stig and the band Steppeulvene (The Prariewolves, or possibly a spin on the band Steppenwolf? But maybe it´s the other way around in that case, coz as far as I can see, the Danish band was founded first of the two)…

I just checked Wikipedia. Which says that Steppenwolf got its name from Herman Hesses novel of 1927 “Der Steppenwolf”. A cult novel to the youth of the 50s and 60s, the book describes a man´s feeling of being alienated by socety, and also describes sex and the uses of drugs quite openly, as well as eing strongly influenced by psycho analysis (Hesse was in therapy under C.G. Jung)…
So I think that the Danish band also was inspired by this book. Especially as their debut album starts with “My name is Harry…”, which is the name of the character in Hesse´s novel as well…

Sources of inspiration. All linked together. All parts of OneSource really. 🙂

There is also a film made about the band, quite recently. “Steppeulven”, it´s called. I haven´t been able to see it yet. Looking forward to it!

Here´s a trailer:

I will add that dvd to my christmas wish list. (If it exists on dvd. Would prefer a cinema screen of course, with beautiful cinematography like that).

Aaaanyways.
Just wanted to share my love for Stig Møller with you guys.
Everyone should know of his amazing talent. And of the genius of the band Steppeulvene.
