Fanø’s 8. of March 2019

Good “morning”, soon 10 AM here, been awake an hour. Fantastic to not be forced out of bed by alarm 0630, as on school days. It´s just not for me. I miss the years where I would go to bed 02-03 and wake up 10-11. Go to work 4pm-10 pm. In an old people´s home, and a statistics bureau… After work I´d go out with my colleagues, dancing or just hanging out in eachother´s homes. Good times. 🙂

I enjoy being the mother of 3 too, though, of course! I don´t mean to compare and I don´t long to go back to the bygones. There is a time for everything. Many shades of Love. (I´m not much into grey, sudden connotation popping up there).

Anyway. I just wanted to say a couple of words about today, and lost track in my greeting. Never mind. To be human is to be imperfect.

It is Saturday the 12. of January. I have a meeting at noon, with 3 people with whom I´m organizing a cultural event. On the 8.of March. International Women´s Day. Where we take a look at how equality between the genders is doing. Iceland just last year decided by law that women will be paid equally to men. LAST YEAR. And actually, they are the first country in the world to do this. !!!

Many people seem to think this is not a big deal. But. WHY exactly should one gender be paid more for their work than the other gender? Why is this reasonable? Please enlighten me because I can NOT understand it.

People say feminism is anti men, aggressive and out of fashion. I disagree. Feminism is about equality. For everyone. We are alle equal. Men and women, black and white, moslems and christians and atheists, gays and straights, tall and short, fat and thin, adult and child. No human being is inferior to other human beings.

Feminism is the opposite of fascism, one could say. As fascism believes in one group of people´s superiority over other groups.

(And yes, children have different rights than adults. But they are equal in value as a human being-entity. Is what I mean).

On the 8. of March 2019, we have booked Strien, which is the community building in our village. A very sweet, old and big space for holding parties. There is a bar, a kitchen, a stage, dancing hall (or dining), and one more big room.

We have booked a lovely local lady to cook tasty soups, that we will sell very cheap to the guests. (We don´t do this for profit making, but rather for strengthening bonds in our community, honouring the local history of strong women, as this was an island of sailors and ship building, and hence a lot of the time only the women and children were home whilst the fathers sailed away for years on end).

We will have a couple of good speeches from stage. The first local female mayor will speak, and an other woman whom I´ve forgotten who is. (Remember I don´t do this planning alone, we are 4). We also hope for an organization for all genders (more than 2) to come and tell us what they work towards. Local women will go on stage and dance, sing, read out their poems… stuff like that.

Last year I actually went on stage for the first ever 8.of March event organized here. I sang a song and I read out a rap that I had written especially for the day. 8.March 18.

It was organized by Ragnhild Kallehauge, who is also the initiator this year. And myself and our friend Julie Frey and Ragnhild. all went on stage twice each, in The Cornerbar, down the street. It was a lovely happening, actually. This year we scale it up, as it´s on a Friday this year… 🙂

One central element this year, is that there will be dancing. YEEEYYYYYY!! 🙂

We are creating a “Playlist for Every Taste”! And the participating guests can, upfront, send in their wishes for songs to be added to the playlist! This opportunity really ignites me. I have for years now been planning to make a reaggae party playlist, and add visuals. As I have done some vj-ing in Norway in my twenties (90s). I haven´t made this playlist – and – visuals yet. But in this event now, I get a round of practice, creating a list together with others. Looking forward to this process.

The event starts at 4 pm, with open soup kitchen and bar. And entertainment for children the first hour and a half. We want to include EVERYONE.

There are many more exciting ideas in the planning, but I don´t want to reveal more yet.

The theme colour will be pink. Not pastel, but very bright, dark pink.

🙂

We also have a Facebook group, called

Fanø´s 8.marts – Ja til Kvindekraft

https://www.facebook.com/groups/2233645963574458/

Ja til Kvindekraft means “Yes to Woman Power.” or maybe ” Yes to Female Power”.

Power is a very wide concept to work with. All kinds of strange connotations connected to this word. Force, brutality, obuse, making people do what they wouldn´t do if not manipulated…

Power means the ability to get something done. To have one´s will heard, listened to, respected. To be able to have one´s will. Influence. The energy to get ideas materialized into practical reality.

We could say “Yes to the Female Way of doing things”. Yes to the (traditionally considered) females values. Of caring and compassion, empathy. Consideration for the individual human´s well being more than consideration for private profits, paid for by the collective.

I know. We are all both female and male. In a unique, individual % wise balance. Some men are also way more empathic than some women. Myself, I consider myself androgynous, a balanced being both feminine and masculine. Identifying … 75%…? with the label “woman”, yet an odd one of the kind. Or not. Because who gets to decide what is odd and not odd?! Aren´t we all odd, really?

I fall in love with men. But I could probably also fall in love with a woman. It´s about personal connection, isn´t it. I view sexuality as a ray, somehow. A ray of energy that is not static. That can shift, according to the unique chemical connection between people. As opposed to box thinking, as if sexuality is a set of boxes we choose to belong to. The hetero box, the gay box. The bi box. Nice and simple. 🙂

I guess this is why some churches think they can heal sexual orientation. They think individuals choose which box to belong to. And hence they can be forced to change box.

I don´t think this is possible. I have a few gay friends. Who tell me they knew from childhood they were attracted to same sex puils in the  school class. And that this was very scary, as they knew they had to hide it from EVERYBODY. As it was not acceptable, and they would be bullied / hated for it.

So much for civilization.

Well.

I say yes to the feminine way of doing things. Yes to more women in leader positions. Let us consider the needs of mother earth and the future generations. Let us choose peace and love over war profits / weapon sales. Let´s be more gentle, listening, empathic, co operating people, in this inevitable globalization process that is happening to us. The Human Race. Unite!!!

I know, I just tipped into hippie political slogans there.

I am a feminist, and certainly do feel free to call me a hippy anytime you please. They were tried ridiculed. By the ones in power; because they were dangerous. They stopped the war in Vietnam.

I would like there to be made new labels.

I´m an EQUALIST.  !

If you have other suggestions for new words that would better cover my message than “feminist” and “hippy”, please let me know in the comments field below. I love to talk and discuss, matters of the heart. The matters that weigh me down, or lift me up. The matters that truely matter. That reside within my heart. Heart Matters.

🙂

I´ve gotta dash. Shower, breakfast and on to the meeting. Enjoy your Saturday! And remember; EVERYONE is very welcome to come celebrate international women´s day with us on Fanø, 08.03. 2019!

  1. A person who is for social equality is called an egalitarian in English. I don’t think we have any good words in Danish/Norwegian yet. Maybe we could say egalitarist to match the English word, since we already have egalitær as an adjective.

    1. Thanks for sharing this insight, Fenja. An egalitarian… Okay… Never heard this word before. Good to know! I feel that the Scandinavi-fication of English words often sounds… stiff…? Egalitarist….. Hmmmm…. Yes it hold the right meaning, but. Sounds a bit militant in my mind… somehow… Hahaha…. I often use the word Peaceworker. I am Pro Peace and Joy for All. Equilibrium… Equalizer… Ligestillings-Aktivist… Egalitarist… Hmmmmm… You´ve got my mind working. Thanx! 🙂 I hope to find a better word than egalitarist. Egal-gitarist? Hehehe…. Let me know if you come up with something more!
