The annual cultural event with focus on children and their families, is here again for the second time.
The ngo “The Incredibles”, where I am a proud member, started on 8.of March 2014, and last year we could finally show our ideas in real action. A day in celebration of our local community on this little island of Fanoe, population 3000. We invite every citizen and every ngo to participate in creating a wonderful day of fun, giving centre stage to the local children and youth.
This year we have a family team competition, we have crocket and petanque, the riding club, One wheel bicyclists, a dance group that will teach and perform, we have skaterkids who will show us some tricks and spraypaint their skating ramps on the day, if the school manages to set it in motion for the date of 17.of June…
We have a cafe, where some of the Syrian women from our Red Cross women´s cafe will bring some dishes for us to sell… We have a Syrian troubadour as well who will come sing and play for us, we have local musicians as well, we have cakes and coffee in our big party tent…
We will play baseball, adults against kids probably, and we have rented sumo wrestling outfits, adults and kids sizes, so we can play some interesting soccer wearing them. Meanwhile all these ballgames go on, local performance artist (And member of The Incredibles), Ragnhild Kallehauge, will be storytelling in our new “Memory Garden” which recently has been created for the citizens suffering from Alzherimer´s disease… Yes, we proudly present a programme that has thought about all ages and nationalities, all genders and weirdotypes, that can possibly be living here, making our island such a wonderful place to live our lives. 🙂
You can see photos and videos from last year´s Diversity Day on our facebook page: “Foreningen De Utrolige på Fanø”. If you drop by there, please give us a like. It cheers us up and cheers us on, to keep meeting monthly in order to organize this yearly feelgood-factor. (One can also become a member of The Incredibles, for a very small, symbolic lump of money. Find our email address on our Facebook page, and ask for our bank account number).
I will leave it at this, and return after the day is finished with more info. Hurray for diversity, thank Goodness we are all different, or else life would be incredibly boring!
This photo is from a race we did last year. I can see we are lacking in stills from last year´s Diversity-day on our facebook page. More videos, and stills from the preparations. I will try to take more stills this year. And hopefully someone else can do some photography as well… This photo was taken by a guest; Niels Christian Nielsen.
