Fanø Free Folk festival # 7 part 2

Greetings! This Sunday morning…

I´ve been editing more concerts from the Fanø Free Folk Festival these last couple of days. Enjoyable work. I uploaded the set with Sophie Cooper, with that brilliant loop pedal I mentioned in the last post about the festival; Fanø Free Folk Festival # 7 part 1

Here´s Sophie Cooper: (Delphine Dora also joins her towards the end).

Great to experience something unusual, something not seen before. At least to me, this was new and refreshing.

If the films that I have made stop and start from time to time, it´s because they are shot and uploaded in HD quality, so the files are rather big. I have tried to upload in a smaller format, but the pictures become grainy. So. It´s up to the quality of streaming power and flashplayer that makes the difference between smooth viewing and non smoothe. I think that pretty soon all devices and streaming will adapt to deal with the HD sizes.

Here is one more piece from the Sunday programme. Flygtningestemmer. Voices of refugees. It´s a pretty long film. That´s because I care deeply about the issue of refugees, I always have. Back in 1990, 18 years old, I was the leader of a local group of Sos Racism. We helped the newly arrived asylum seekers, showing them around town, involving them in voluntary work projects such as helping to paint an old people´s home… we arranged a women´s cafe once a month at the asylum centre, where we locked the door and drew the curtains, and off came the abayas, and all the infants were laid on the pool table to sleep once they had been fed… and we cooked great meals together, and they taught us bellydancing and told us dirty jokes…!! Hahaha… I remember I got so surprised. These ladies, whome on the street were all wrapped up in their burkas, almost invisible. Behind closed doors they were anything but invisible. Great characters. A lot of fun to hang with.

Yeah. So I include the stories between the songs here, about the project, and Nour´s thoughts on being in his situation… Thumbs up for international meetings and co creating music to share important stories!

I have also edited together a series of glimpses from the Friday happenings. A couple of the acts I have also made longer concert films out of. You find it all on my Youtube channel, which bares my name; Lene Kaltwasser Henriksen.

I have not turned every act into a separate video. Because one, it takes a lot of time to edit. And two, not all my recordings are good enough, I really need to get hold of a small tripod with a tilt-and-pan-handle… Three, there are gigs where I have only filmed a couple of minutes, because I was tired or needed air / it became too intense for me… (Not meaning to say the music I have filmed less, is less great than the music I have filmed in full, of course). There are also a handful gigs I didn´t film at all.

So. With that said, here´s a compilation of the Friday programme:

(The Great Park, Tidebound, Rasmus Kjær, Uhrbrand/Bjørslev/Brodde, Rowan Coupland, Eric Arn, Boucheloud and Christian Pallin).

Yeah. So. That´s what I´ve got for now. I´m in the process of editing a similar piece from the Saturday programme. The Sunday artists I have covered as individual pieces, minus Ghost flute and Dice, because I was exhausted that morning and couldn´t make it to the Forsamlingshus (House of Gatherings) until Sophie Cooper´s set. I´m only human. All those mindblowing gigs, and beers and coffee punches into the early hours of two mornings on the row…

Here is a video of Ghost Flute and Dice I found on Youtube. Darn, it´s so annoying I missed this, man!

Okay.

Ps, if you go to my blog´s facebook page; Kaltwasser Heart Matters, and give it a like, then you will be notified every time I publish a new blogpost. I share every new post onto that page.
I write about my life on Fanø, about spirituality, about vocal sound therapy which is my profession… I share some of my (video-)poetry, talk about sexuality, equality, cultural events and… yeah. Anything that is in my heart to talk about, and that matters to me.

I will publish this blogpost now and get ready for the Red Cross event this afternoon, for refugees and their local friends to gather and eat some cake. That´s gonna be nice.

Fanø has taken more refugees than any other kommune /county in Denmark, related to the size of population. (3000 people live here).
We are proud of that fact, and also proud to say that we have great success stories from the integrating of Bosnians and Burmese citizens, and now we welcome our new Syrian neighbours and make an active effort to meet them and show them what life on Fanø is all about.

I´m a member of the ngo Kulturelt Samråd, and we arranged a welcome party for the Syrians last April. With Syrian and Danish folkmusic and folkdancing, and an international cake buffet. 35 nationalities are represented in the Fanø population! You can read all about that splendid day we shared, here: People Meet! An event to welcome refugees

I actually think this event should be copied by cities and counties across Europe. To organize an arena where we can communicate as equals, without so much need for verbal language. We can appreciate good cakes together, and dance and laugh…. be human beings together,  showing interest in eachother´s  cultural expressions… Yeah…

We had a wonderful welcome speech written by the leader of our ngo, and we had one of the newly arrived Syrians with us on stage, translating it  into Arabic, so everyone got the message…

Aaaaanyways. Yes. It´s all described in that other blogpost there. People meet.

And so we also did at the Free Folk Festival. Thank you so much for that weekend. I will edit a compilation of the Saturday programme, and make one last blogpost about the festival.

See you!   🙂
